Glorious Revolution occurs.

Former governor William Bradstreet and other members of a Council of Safety gather at the Town House and assume control of the government. From the east balcony of the building, they read a declaration denouncing Royal Gov. Edmund Andros because he denied we had any such thing as a Town or Township amongst us. The drastic move is taken with the support of the town’s ministers and merchants, and Cotton Mather later calls it, “The most Unanimous Resolution perhaps that ever was known to have inspir’d any People.” The deposed governor flees to the fort on Fort Hill, is arrested the next day, and imprisoned at Castle Island the next day.* This begins the so-called “Inter Charter period,” which lasts until 1691.*
